While the talk this week may be on the winner of The Bachelor 2016 and Ben Higgins picking Lauren Bushnell during The Bachelor Season 20 finale on Monday night, we have some other questions popping up, like this lack of diversity on the franchise! There was talk of having a “diverse” Bachelorette, but then JoJo Fletcher was announced as The Bachelorette 2016 and that seems far from being diverse, right??? Well, Ben and Lauren address that topic below in our The Bachelor 2016 spoilers!
Since that Bachelor Finale on Monday night, Ben and Lauren can officially be seen in public and that means lots and lots of time talking to the media! Besides their engagement and when the big wedding is, the next big topic is JoJo as The Bachelorette and this lack of diversity on the show.
In a conference call with the media, the happy couple was asked about the diversity debate and Ben said: “First off, JoJo as the bat, I think she deserves it. How they decide on ‘The Bachelorette’ is not up to me. I didn’t even know I was in consideration to be the next ‘Bachelor’ until they called me.”
So, nice way to not put blame on yourself, which is true. I mean, Ben doesn’t pick the people, so why ask him? He could have said a little more, but I don’t think he wants to hurt JoJo any more than he already has! A follow-up question was asked to Lauren regarding the same topic and she said: “No, I think Ben pretty much summed it up. Neither him or myself have anything to do with the decision-making.”
From the crop of ladies this season, I don’t think any real “diverse” women stand out, even though Caila was mentioned big time in getting the role. I think that would have been boring and I like JoJo as a choice!
